National Embodied Carbon Week

w/c 7th April is National Embodied Carbon Week – the UK Green Building Council and WRAP are calling on the construction industry to highlight the importance of embodied carbon in the built environment.  There is a whole week of events and EQ Consultancy will be getting involved.  One of the key areas is to have  an industry standard method of measuring and reporting embodied carbon, UK GBC and WRAP will be launching their new reporting toolkit this week and EQ will be in attendance at the launch for what we hope will resolve this issue.

Not sitting on our laurels EQ are working with a client and already pioneering the need to highlight embodied carbon and on a current project at we have implemented numerous measures to reduce overall carbon and will be delivering to our client an embodied carbon neutral building.  This will also enable us to engage with the local community and schools, offering education on carbon and the chance for a local school to have a tree planting and carbon offsetting day with the project team.

All of this follows swiftly on the back of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report released last week which observed that the impacts of climate change have already affected agriculture, human health, ecosystems on land and in the oceans, water supplied and people’s livelihoods.  The report highlighted that the impacts are occurring from the tropics to the poles, from small islands to large continents and from the very wealthiest countries to the poorest.

This truly is an issue that touches people, societies and ecosystems around the world.  Chris Field , Co-chair of Working Group II said “We definitely face challenges, but understanding those challenges and tackling them creatively can make climate-change adaptation an important way to help build a more vibrant world in the near-term and beyond”

That sounds like a challenge that EQ Consultancy are up for – are you?
